All property owners are encouraged to file an appeal online through SmartFile. Filing an appeal online ensures timely processing of appeals and ensures all accompanying documentation is easily accessible by analysts.

Anyone filing an appeal on a property - either residential or commercial - on behalf of someone else must file the appeal online, per Rule 4 of the Official Appeal Rules of the Cook County Assessor's Office. Paper appeal forms will not be accepted by anyone filing on behalf of another property owner.

Only in cases when filing an appeal online is not possible can a paper form be submitted.
